I have a question for the three of you that read my blog:
Do you have any suggestions for alternate uses for pillow shams? I have, at last count, seven pillow shams. I don't use them for their intended purpose because it's just too much work to put a pillow sham on the pillow, take it off for sleeping and then put it back on in the morning. I have about 1000 other things to do that are more important than that. I also don't have space in my room or in my life to use them as decorative pillows. Pillows that I would keep in the sham and then just take off the bed for the night. My bedroom is WAAAY too small for extra pillows to be lying around the floor at night. I know I could just throw them away and be done with it, but it seems like a huge waste to do that. The shams ARE pretty and it's such a big chunk of fabric, I can't stand the thought of tossing them. Am I being too much of a pack rat? Should I throw them away already or is there a scathingly brilliant use for them? Please help.

Heehee - I don't know if I count as one of your 3 readers, but I do occasionally read your posts!
Here's what I do with pillow shams and extra throw pillow covers that aren't in use: I have a large stash of fabric scraps that are too small to fold and organize like my larger fabric pieces. Instead I keep the scraps in the shams! I don't know if this will help, but it works well for me. (I actually did a post on this - go to my blog and click on the Crafts label - it should be the first post.)
Well I do a lazy thing an lay them across my pillows when I make my bed. I give the illusion I have them on my pillows but I don't!
I've made curtains out of them.
Personally, I like having them on my bed, they are always handy for when I need them for company. I think you have enough room for them to just toss them aside at night (NOT all seven, 2 is plenty). The others I would give to Rebecca to use to practice her sewing.
I'm a new reader...from Kim C...thought I'd say Hi here and throw in my 2 cents since I can totally relate and am also a fellow Idahoan.
Do they all match or are they from different sets?
(I laughed because I often do the same as Kili. Our pillows came out of the shams when we had company and never made it back in.)
Could you just have 2 bedsize pillows that stay in the shams for when the bed is made and for leaning on when reading in bed?
If you want them completely away from the bed to simplify the space are the patterns attractive and match the rest of your home to make placemats or seat cushions from? Or scatter cushions for the couch? How about a patchwork quilt, or skirt lol...okay too much. Doll blankets, doll clothes, table cover?
Sorry long comment for the first time, I just have a stash of stuff just like this and I love the idea of repurposing.
Of course there's always the Idaho Youth Ranch and then you rest without the added clutter. (which is what I need to keep doing.) :)
